WMR 42.37 = Poor (0–44.9). Last week's 52.15 against Arsenal had everyone buzzing about where we were headed - this brought us back down to earth. Two weeks in and we've already seen both sides of United: the version that went toe-to-toe with Arsenal, and the one that looked completely out of sorts at Fulham. That kind of swing is exactly why we're stuck where we are.
On paper it's a point, but we all know we got lucky. Our 1.63 xG might look respectable until you remember most of it came from that penalty. Take that away and we created next to nothing from actual play.
Why We Scraped Such a Low Score
Big chances 2–3 against - Fulham carved out the cleaner, more dangerous opportunities.
SoT% 30% (3/10) - sloppy finishing with barely any genuine tests for their keeper. Too many shots that were never going anywhere near the target.
Corners 6–9 - they just kept winning them and forcing us deeper. Every time we tried to get out, another corner came flying in. When you can't defend set pieces, teams will exploit it all day long.
The top sides don't let Fulham pepper them with nine corners and create three clear-cut chances. That gap says it all - we’re nowhere near UCL, nowhere near Europa…
We don’t even look like a top-10 club right now.
What This Actually Tells Us
WMR of 42.37 = Poor. Fulham controlled more of the game, created better chances, and kept us pinned back for long stretches. We're living off moments rather than dominating passages of play. Last week against Arsenal felt like we'd turned a corner - this made it look like we just got carried away. Right now we’re a coin flip: one week competitive, the next week a mess. That’s definitely not Champions League material, we need consistency.
What Needs Sorting Next Week
Create something from open play - proper cutbacks, first-time finishes, chances that come from our buildup rather than ref decisions.
Stop the corner parade (≤5) - nine conceded is embarrassing. Every team in the league will have watched that and fancied their chances from set pieces.
Fix those two fundamentals and we can start building something. Mess up again and we'll know that performance was just a one-off.
